Learn coding basics by building animatronic puppets, interactive costumes, “smart” home decorations, DIY robots from recycled materials, personalized game controllers, and more! Maker/Author/Educator Kathy Ceceri will show beginner artists and engineers how to add programming to arts and crafts projects using free, online software like Microsoft MakeCode and small, reusable microcontroller boards like the Adafruit Circuit Playground Express. During this four-week series with a Halloween theme, you will make a programmable mystery box, costume piece, jack-o’-lantern or other character, and model haunted house. When you’re done, you can take your creation home (except for borrowed electronics parts). This class is a great introduction for kids who want to go on in robotics, video game design, wearable tech, and other electronic arts!

Notes:
-> Let us know if you can bring your own laptop or need to borrow one. A Chrome internet browser is preferred. A limited number of laptops will be available for use during class time.
-> Electronics parts for each week’s projects will be provided for use during class.
-> Optional: You can buy a kit containing the reusable electronics parts (Adafruit CPX, data cable, battery pack, wires, and servo motor) to continue working on your own for an additional fee. This kit is $40.00
